  1. a field goal was a method of scoring over a hundred years back when the game had only just been invented. Back then you didn't get a lot of passing of the ball, players would just run until they got takled and the ball went loose. A field goal was when the ball went loose and you kicked it from broken play over the posts.

  2. very true, although isnt a penalty a field goal too?

  3. The term 'field goal' is used more in rugby league, where as in rugby union its a 'dropped goal'...otherwise pretty much the same thing except the points theyre worth:

A field goal in rugby league is worth 1 point and in rugby union its worth 3 points.

  4. A Field goal/Drop goal is where during play, a player does a drop kick through the posts and over the cross bar.

The scoring is the same as a penalty kick. This is where the opposition causes a penalty and your teams kicker is allowed an attempt at kicking it through the posts. The kick must be a place kick off the ground.

    The scoring is as fololows,

    Field goal = 3

    Penalty Kick = 3

    Try = 5

    conversion = 2

The scoring for a try used to be 4 but the irb increased it to encourage more attempts at scoring trys to improve the game from a spectators view.

  5. Any place kick: conversion (2points) and penalty (3 points) would be classed as field goals. As well as a drop goal also 3 points.

With a try being considered a touchdown.

  6. It is when you drop kick the rugby ball over the post during a rugby game

  7. in Argentina a field goal is when you let the ball touch the field and then you kick it and pas it through the posts. that will give you 4 points. Or after a penalty you put the ball in the flor and you kick it and pas it through the posts.(3 points)

  8. A penalty kick for poles.

  9. in rugby you dont have a feild goal they are called drop goals or place kicks

  10. Geez there's some pretty lame answers to the question here!!!! Why do people who obviously have no idea insist in posting wrong answers (alex v take note!!!)

A field goal is scored in open play by the kicker dropping the ball to the ground, and kicking it on the half-volley, (ie as the ball bounces up slightly).

Obviously, the ball must pass between the uprights and over the crossbar in order to score 3 points.

Classic example - Johnny Wilkinson's (England) field goal in extra time to beat the Wallabies in the last World Cup.......

    (the little tw@t!!!! ;-))

  11. it called a conversion, it is where u kich the ball from one certain spot into the H posts, depending on penalty it 2pts in Union and 3 in League, After try it 3pts in Union and 3pts in League

  12. In the UK it's called a drop goal..3 points in union and 1 point in league.

  13. Field goal is when you drop kick the ball over the cross bar in between the posts during the normal play time.

  14. A field goal is a phrase used mainly in American Football when they cannot get the yardage for a touchdown & are close enough to the posts to get 3 points.

It is used as a phrase in Rugby Union but is called a drop goal & is worth 3 points.

They also use the phrase field goal in league & is the same as union but you only get 1 point.

    Hope this help you out.

  15. Field Goals consist of either a Dropped Goal over crossbar and counts for 3 points, or a Penalty which is 3 points. A conversion after try is scored is 2 points.

  16. a penalty kicked between the posts or a converstion kicked after a try has been scored. a try is simmilar to a touch down

  17. There is no such thing as a field goal in rugby.

The 5 methods of scoring are

    Try - 5 Points

    Conversion - 2 Points

    Penalty Goal - 3 Points

    Drop Goal - 3 Points

Goal from Mark - 3 Points

No one has scored a goal from mark for years though because they changed the rules and now you can only call a mark in your own 22 so need to kick the ball 90 yards to score which lets face it - it's not going to happen.

  18. "A field goal, in rugby union and rugby league, is a play that, if attempted successfully, will score a number of points."

It is also called a dropped goal.
