  1. filter media comes is lots of different shapes and sizes. its where the bacteria colonize and then they can start cleaning the water. the media with most sides is normally the best because it can hold more bacteria. the filter you have you need to speak to the local pet store about the media size you need. hope this helps a little

  2. Filter media is basically, anything you put in the filter.  The sponge, and filter floss/wool, bacteria bio balls, ceramic rings, etc.  I'm not familiar with that filter, but really all you'll need is some more filter floss/filter wool.  The sponge should last a long time.

  3. Filter media basically refers to any of the stuff that is put into a filter to help filter the water and provide a surface for beneficial bacteria to grow on.  It can be different things in different types of filters, which is why it is referred to as "media".

For example, in a canister filter, you can use little chunks of stuff that look like little rocks.  These can be activated carbon, zeolite, bio-balls, nitra-zorb and lots of other man-made stuff that's meant to provide a porous surface for bacteria to grow on or absorb or remove ammonia or nitrate from the water.  In a power filter, the media can be sheets of fine fiber meant to catch debris, or pieces of open-pored sponge.  Sometimes filter media comes in a cartridge.  Sponge filters use sponges and some filters use a combination of things.  You can even use clean polyester fibrefill for filter media in a pinch.  Your filter media should be rinsed out once a month in old tank water to clean it but keep the beneficial bacteria living in it alive.

  4. "Media" is another word for "stuff."  The cottony stuff that you put in your filter is filter media.

Check with your dealer as to the recommended type of filter media for your filter,, since there are lots of different types, materials, and sizes.
