  1. Fixating is turning the eye (or eyes) to align the most sensitive part of the retina (macula) with the obect of interest.

    Simply "looking at" something.

    Focussing is adjusting the power of the eye (using the ciliary muscles to affect the shape of the crystalline lens) so that the image of the object being looked has minimal blur on the retina.
