  1. It's usually the first stage  of something.

    In Maths and English it may be what is learnt at preschool or early primary school level.

    For maths it probably involves learning numbers, counting, shapes, size etc

    For english it probably means learning about patterns, how pictures are associated to words, letter recognition etc

    I'm only guessing though this was what seemed to be taught at the preschool I worked at.


  2. Foundation stage precedes the primary school curriculum in Uk, ie: under fives. The subjects are named problem solving, reasoning and numeracy rather than maths and Communication, Language and Literacy, rather than English. Check Early Years Foundation Stage for more details.

  3. Foundation Stage is a childs school years from 3 - 5 through nursery and then reception they then go into Key Stage 1, 5 - 7 years  Key Stage 2, 7 - 11 years.
