  1. It's a gorgeous place, beautifully located in the middle of the beautiful blackforest region, yet large enough a town to offer a lot of culture and entertainment. It's a university town, which gives it that certain flair. It's also the one major German city that actually has a mayor who belongs to the Green Party - Freiburg is the solar energy capital of Germany. Loads of great architecture, especially the cathedral, and the area around it is great for hiking as well as for motorbike tours. Their football club is decent enough, do go to see them at least once. It's not too far from France, which makes for interesting day trips. And it's a wine-growing area, but you also get a decent beer there (which you'll be allowed to drink in a pub as you're sixteen and that's beer drinking age in Germany).

The dialect may take some getting used to, but other than that, consider yourself lucky. It's a great place. I used to go there a lot when I was a kid and a teenager and always loved it.

  3. Freiburg is one of the hottest cities in Germany. But it's located not too far away from Switzerland and France, the Bodensee and Stuttgart are nearby, and it's a beautiful city.

If you don't speak German yet, it's a good idea to start learning the language as soon as possible. There are also ways of learning the language while you are here (Volkshochschule offers crash-courses). Though English is one of the foreign laguages taught in school, students in your age group have a fairly limited vocabulary, so communication could become difficult.

  4. I envy you!

I was a lot in Freiburg when I was a teenager, since I lived nearby.

Freiburg is a wonderful place, one of my fave places in Germany.

It's really giving a feeling of freedom, as the name says: "free castle".

It's a very sunny and warm place as already mentioned, surrounded by a beautiful part of the black forest on one side, and the rhine flatland on the other side - France straight behind.

For me the city size is perfect. Small enough to get to know people and meet them again by accident, big enough to have all shops that you need.

Great leisure value, with Europa-Park nearby, lakes to swim in, paradise for hiking and cycling, but also has that typical german medieval/fairytale feeling downtown with old houses and so on.

A perfect city to live in!

  5. it is a town, that is really beautiful in the south of Germany. Shopping there is really fun and a good thing to do. The city is pretty big and downtown there is a street with all stores you want to shop at. It is differen than here with all the malls. There are many places to visit like historical places, cinemas and much more. Not far away there is a amusement park that is called Europa Park with lots of attractions. Have fun there!
