We travel to Paris from California yearly.  We have so much fun and visit with our French friends, Remi and family, Michel and family.  We could move there and never look back.  Seriously.

I agree that having lunch in the Eiffel Tower is a must.  The budget restaurant is called Altitude 95.  Call ahead one day for a 1pm table.  When you arrive go to the lil booth for restaurant check in.  The girl will check you off and hand you a special ticket.  Find the special guest spot at the elevators and head up for your very special lunch.  It's better than you expect.  We have also done the very pricey Jules Verne restaurant, but you will have more fun at Altitude 95.  The food's very good too.  Don't worry about language, Altitude 95 has guests from every nation in the World.

Beyond that, buy the tour book called Access Paris.  The is wonderful.  The book shows you Paris the way you will experience the city, by neighborhood.  The streets are laid out for you with its hotels, cafes, shops, and monuments.  This book is a very good investment.  New edition every March 1.

There is a place called Cultures Bieres or something like that on the Champs Elysees.  It is a fantastic beer bar, with different kinds of beers, beer cocktails, beer products, beer souvenirs, etc.  Around that same area are a bunch of car dealerships like Peugot where you can check out the latest cars and concepts and pick up really great souvenirs.  I've gotten some really cute t-shirts and toys.

It depends on what you like, but I suggest doing everything and anything you have the opportunity to do. Take a walk in the Luxembourg Gardens, see Les Invalides, visit Jim Morrison's grave, try it all!

Most first time tourists enjoy seeing the famous sights like the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.

Art lovers enjoy the fact that Paris has some of the finest and most extensive museums anywhere.

The food in Paris is fabulous and the variety, from street food to world famous restaurants is amazing.

The music scene is Paris is awesome and includes almost every genre that there is. Jazz venues are particularly good in Paris.

Its a great city to party with clubs that stay open until the sun comes up.

Its generally just a good place to hang out. The cafe life is very comfortable and pleasant.

Since you are apparently very young (I notice you asking about cliff notes in another of your questions) you might like the Friday night roller-skate thru Paris. People (often thousands of them) assemble at 10 PM every Friday at the Place D'Italie and then skate in a group thru the streets of Paris.
