What is fun to do in and near St. Malo in France?

A colleague and I are taking a group of high school students and their parents to France in July. What are some fun and inexpensive activities in and around St. Malo (and maybe Dinan) to keep the kids and their parents occupied and interested?

Obviously they can enjoy the beach and all the beach activities but there is much more: the historic towns, megalithic sites, hiking along the coast, attending a fest noz (Breton street party) or one of the many summer festivals. The local tourist ofice will have the programme and all kinds of info and brochures for local entertainment.
