  1. You probably mean Additional Maths. This is a lovely little course, designed to make mathematically minded people like me and you get a head start at A-Level. It's nothing like GCSE and will test you, but if you put the work in you will do well. Good luck.

  2. I had to look up this information as we who are United States of America residents are not familiar with Great Britain's General Certificate of Secondary Education.

It seems that UCAS would mean University College Admissions System   .  The extra points would help you

gain admissions to a British college or university.  Moreover

the additional math (We usually don't make maths plural here in the United States)  will strengthen your background

and help you be prepared to excel and move faster when you are at the college or university level.

  3. It isn't Further Mathematics- that is offered at college. It's probably additional mathematics, as stated above.

I would recommend taking it as it gives you a head-start in college maths (AS-level and A-level), so when you are taught in college you will already be familiar with a lot of the ideas and so won't be as confused as others.

Don't worry too much about the UCAS points as they are used by universities and employers- the vast majority leave college with a few hundred UCAS points.

  4. I took Further Maths, and it is very difficult.

Sometimes, universities will look for As in sciences (with maths counting as a science) but they will often take a B in Further Maths, because understandably, it is more difficult.

It's worth doing, especially if you have a head for numbers.

EDIT: Autonova, Further mathematics was and still is offered as an A Level. Look here for clarification:

  5. If you mean additional maths, I took this when doing GCSE's as well. Officially it stands as a "Free Standing Maths Qualification" (well, thats what they put on the certificate anyway!)

If you're looking at doing maths for A-level I found it really helped me as it covers some of the stuff you need and gives you a good introduction for the core maths.

I found it a bit tough and got a C overall, if I remember rightly that was pretty much the average from the class I sat it with though. I didn't realise it gave you UCAS points tho! But it doesn't really matter in that sense, but it will help you get a better grade at A-level which is worth alot more than 20 points!

Hope this helped somewhat with your decsion.
