Ultimately, the future fuel is electric. The batteries are getting better so the range is longer. The electric motors give maximum torque at every RPM so they are quite lively to drive.  

Unless major infrastructure is undergone, like Linear Induction Drive in the highways for example, electric cars will be commuter vehicles. BTW Ev's are ideally suited for commuting and errand running. Use the SUV for driving the kids to Grandma's several states away.

If they could only find a safe way to dispose of nuclear waste and increase the storage capacity of batteries which having them be so harmful to the environment, I would think that it would be the perfect solution for our problems.

Well part of the CO2 cycle the plants keep the C as food for the plant. When the plant leaves es fall off. The leaves  they float down the river to the delta where it will break down into oil & gas. We will never run out of fossil fuels .
