What is geology? ?

I have to write a two page essay defining "what is geology?" and then give a short description. I'm not asking you to do it for me but can you please give me some sort of detail so that i can understand what it is. Thank you.

geology is about the rocks, minerals and crystals that make up the earths crust.  This is different in different parts of the world, in what it contains.  When they drill down into the earths crust they take 'core samples' to examine, and from these they can see what was going on in an area going back many hundred, possibly thousands of years.  Good luck with the essay. x
