  1. My two-cents on one primary harm. The Antarctic is rapidly melting, but everyone believes it would take at least half a century. Scientists keep seeing that the ice is melting faster than expected, so every year, I believe it would melt 4x as fast, then 16x as fast, then so on.

There is no safe prevention. For example, putting Sulfur in the air will cause the Earth to cool down, but we will receive little sunlight in areas. In case a volcanic eruption happens during that time, our skies may be completely blocked out and thus killing natural habitats faster.

  3. Global warming is the increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century, and its projected continuation.

The average global air temperature near the Earth's surface increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 100 years ending in 2005.[1] The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-twentieth century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic (man-made) greenhouse gas concentrations"[1] via an enhanced greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward.[2][3]

These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science,[4] including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.[5][6][7] While individual scientists have voiced disagreement with some findings of the IPCC,[8] the overwhelming majority of scientists working on climate change agree with the IPCC's main conclusions.[9][10]

Climate model projections summarized by the IPCC indicate that average global surface temperature will likely rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) during the twenty-first century.[1] This range of values results from the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions as well as models with differing climate sensitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a thousand years even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. The delay in reaching equilibrium is a result of the large heat capacity of the oceans.[1]

Increasing global temperature is expected to cause sea level to rise, an increase in the intensity of extreme weather events, and significant changes to the amount and pattern of precipitation. Other expected effects of global warming include changes in agricultural yields, modifications of trade routes, glacier retreat, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.

Remaining scientific uncertainties include the amount of warming expected in the future, and how warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but there is ongoing political and public debate worldwide regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences.

  4. if u like documentaries  then u will love to get info from the movie called "the inconvenient truth"...its been presented by ex-US president AL Gore.. everything u want to know about global warming from stats to predictions to preventions :)

  5. Actually durring warming (and it has been much warmer and much cooler on earth) agriculture increases. Warm periods allow longer growing seasons, thus higher crop production.  Some diseasies do increase, like malairia, but they can be fought by reducing mosquito populations (pesticides) and are a problem where it doesn't go below freezing already, (always has been)   CO2 is blamed as the leading Man Made Global Warming Gas, but no proof has been found yet that it causes global warming.  When we were warming, so were Mars and Venus, as the Sun was putting out more energy. Now we (Mars Earth, and Venus ) are cooling and sun spot activity is at a null. Even though we didn't sign the Keyoto treaty, we have reduced our CO2 emmissions more than Europe, who did. The number one polluter and generater of CO2 is China, and they have no plans to reduce their output. India is number 2.  All the conferences between nations is mostly about having the US pay them for carbon credits, this doesn't reduce CO2 output at all, BUT it does transfer the wealth of the US to all the other (mostly 3rd world ) countries. I'm not saying we shouldn't try and reduce our pollution levels, and we should be looking at new energies to use, but to lower costs and get off of imported energy sources, not because of Man Made Global Warming, as this is mostly a politically created problem, and as long as it gives certain people more political power, will be around for debate, but will never be solved.  Unless we all want to go back to the stone age, and even then some one will bring it up again, to gain political power again.

  6. Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.  It's like putting a blanket on the Earth.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Really good website for more information here:

    http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/f101.a...

Lots of numerical scientific data proving it real here:

    http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Ima...

    http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report...

Proof that most scientists think it's real and mostly caused by us here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu...

We can't prevent it totally but we can reduce it substantially by reducing burning of fossil fuels.

Excellent summary here (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, free download):

  8. global warming means that increases of heat absorbing gases in the atm.

    it causes are

cutting of trees, burning of oils and industris.

that it melts the ice of polar area which m,ay cause flood in coastal area .it also effect the ecosystem. we can pevent this by planting trees.

  9. You are being had,Global Warming is a scam, The Earth has cooled.in the last few years, There are just as many scientists against it as their is for it.You just dont hear about the scientists that say this is not happening.Lots of people are making lots of money with this scam.Try this mans Web,Schnitt he is also on AM radio 3 to 6pm
