  1. Global warming is the warming of the planet caused by the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by industry and automobiles.  As the temperature of the planet rises, the glaciers in Antartica and Greenland begin to melt which will cause a rise in the height of our oceans.  And if the oceans rise, many cities and people near the coast could be flooded.  Trees and plants help to check it by converting carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, back into oxygen.  It is the only way to rid our atmosphere of CO2.  That's why deforestation is a serious issue:  the fewer trees we have, the harder it is to get rid of the CO2 in the atmosphere.

  3. Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

It won't be a Hollywood style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Lots of numerical scientific data proving it real here:

Trees and plants remove CO2 from the air.  But they can't keep up with the amount we're putting in the air right now.

    Look at this graph.

The little squiggles are nature doing its' thing. CO2 falls a bit during summer when plants are active, and rises during the winter. The huge increase is us, burning fossil fuels.  The natural "carbon cycle" buried carbon in fossil fuels over a very long time, little bit by little bit. We dig them up and burn them, real fast.  That's a problem.

Man is upsetting the balance of nature.  We need to fix that.

    The "swindle" movie is wrong.

"A Channel 4 documentary claimed that climate change was a conspiratorial lie. But an analysis of the evidence it used shows the film was riddled with distortions and errors."

  4. Global warming refers to both the natural and manmade activities that result in an increase in the global temperature.

While the focus on global warming is the melting icecaps and glaciers, there is also an increase in carbon dioxide, which is essential for plants.

Plants use carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to produce glucose (a form of sugar) and oxygen.  Without plants, the amount of carbon dioxide would continue to increase significantly (and all air-breathing organisms would not survive, due to the lack of oxygen).

There are some views of global warming that suggest that as the amount of carbon dioxide increases, there will be an increase in the amount of food production (from plants) , as well as the number of different plant and animal species.
