What is going on in his head?

I met a guy at the beginning of the year who lives 30 miles away. We kept in touch via email etc. and pretty soon we were spending all our free time messaging each other. After a few months he visited me, twice in a week and then informed me he was going to start dating a woman that lived locally to him. As I wanted our relationship to go further and he obviously didn't, I asked him to stop contacting me, which he did for a couple of months. He was the one that got back in touch and we are back in exactly the same position we were originally. He is visiting me today as I have had a really tough week and he has been so supportive. This has only made me love him more. I am so confused!! He tells me he is fond of me, and loves hearing from me, but as he knows exactly how I feel I think he is being slightly unfair. I do not know what is going on in his head or what he wants from me. He understands I can't be just a friend

He isnt being fair to you seems like he is using you as a back up if he doesn't wanna go further then tell him its just too hard for you to be friends with him cuz you want something more and he is not willing to do that.
