Cops: 3rd-graders aimed to hurt teacher

A group of third-graders plotted to attack their teacher, bringing a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape and other items for the job and assigning children tasks including covering the windows and cleaning up afterward, police said Tuesday.

The plot by as many as nine boys and girls at Center Elementary School in south Georgia was a serious threat, Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner said.

"We did not hear anybody say they intended to kill her, but could they have accidentally killed her? Absolutely," Tanner said. "We feel like if they weren't interrupted, there would have been an attempt. Would they have been successful? We don't know."

The children, ages 8 and 9, were apparently mad at the teacher because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair, Tanner said. A prosecutor said they are too young to be charged with a crime under Georgia law.

Considering the level of discipline and actual parenting happening in most homes and "no consequence" psychology that dominants public schools-Yes. I can.

Whats wrong with these children r the parents no discipline in the home the kids now a days get away with way too much. My children still get spanked and discplined in my house. if something like that happened with my kids they would beg to go to jail because they wouldn't want to face me. My children are 10 and 13. I'm 37 and that is how my mom took care of business too.

I agree! I read that, and I was like, "What?? Third graders" It's insane. It wouldn't be abnormal for one child to be so violent, but I can't believe there was a group.

This is what "children's rights" get us. It is not a political liberal or conservative stand It is   poor lazy parenting.   I have heard so many kids  tell their parents in public to "Shut up. Or even F-off, You are NOT the boss of me. I am the boss of me!"  and their parents back down, they apologize and their kids run the house. They seem to think kids from 5 years old up should be able to run their own lives without guidance from any adult.  

And if any other adult, including teachers, try to do a little behavior modification, or even basic safety modification the parents fly into a frenzy screaming their kids civil rights have been violated and that someone must be blamed.  

This was _organized, thought out, the kids who orginated the plot _knew_ what they were doing. A normal 9 year old response is immediate, hit the teacher.  They don't make long range plans nor do they Nor do they recruit friends to help them like this.  This is ugly,  The planning showed they understood the concept of right from wrong.  I wonder if those parents are staying up in shifts to make sure one of their darlings isn't plotting against them because of something they did to make the child angry at them.

God I hate being scared of kids, but I have seen this coming since 1991 when I came to understand that teens were capable of thoughtless violence.  It just moved a bit faster than I had hoped.

the trouble with these kids is they have no discipline, they know the teachers and faculty cannot discipline like they use to when I was in school.they call that now child abuse. kids have too many computer games andtime alone than having to do chores or help  with projects around the house. too many parents feel like they are in the way.
