  1. They are definitely in rebuilding mode but have some great prospects and have picked up some decent players in their trades. Sean Gallagher is going to be a pretty good pitcher and check out the stats of some of the arms at Class AA -- Cahill and Anderson could be pretty good big league pitchers in a year or two. The draft has really gone well for them the last couple of years for position players, too.

  2. Are you new? The A's trade away anyone who is good whether they are in their free agent year or not, because despite what some people say, the A's are simply the "minor leagues" for the rest of the teams in baseball. They develop great players and then trade them away under the guise it's "for the future." When the "future" players they traded for become good, they trade them away for the "future" and the cycle never ends. They do not have any intention of ever actually keeping any players and at some point the rest of the life long A's fans will smarten up and realize that as long as the idiot Beane is running this team, they will always be a "B" team.

  3. well they are looking towards their future.  This year didnt look so great, so they though they would sell their stars they dont even need for prospects to make future years more successful.  The cubs and brewers are doing the opposite, they have lots of prospects and are losing all their allstars this year so they are making a big push to win it all this year, because its back to mediocrity for the next 20.

  4. First of all, Bob Geren has nothing to do with all the trades going on beause he's  the manager and he has no control of the trades being made. Billy Beane is making all the decisions. Billy Beane is basically trying to rebuild the a's franchise for the next seasons to come.

Since the a's are a low-market  franchise they can't afford to give contract extensions to high-profile players like blanton, harden, haren ect. So they trade all them away for scouted minor leaguers  that he thinks will emerge to be high profile players. As for the minor leaguers, they are diamonds in the rough. They will emerge soon. Always trust Billy Beane. He traded away so much talent but in exchange gave us even more. He gave us blanton, mcguire, giambi, crosby , street , haren , chavez and more. Billy Beane is a genius. The a's might be poor, but they're farm system sure isn't.

  5. Business as usual, Mulder, Hudson, Zito, they always bounce back.

  6. It's business as usual for the A's.

  7. The A's farm system and prospects are always top notch.  As it's been said, they're trading guys that would sign with other teams for more money once their contracts are up so they can get some value from them.  Look at the pitchers they've given up the past two years:  Dan The Man Haren to AZ (thank you!), Rich Captain DL Harden to the Cubs, and then Joe Blanton to the Phills.  I was talking to my friend about this earlier who likes the A's, they're the team that fins the prospects, polishes them up, and then has them bought away by bigger market teams that can shell out the big bucks.

  8. Oakland's Billy Beane is one of the smartest GM's in the game. Oakland is a small market baseball team. They have a small market budget so they wouldn't be able to afford there stud pitchers when they hit free agency. He always trade them away for the top prospects. These top prospects wind up doing awesome then Billy Beane trades them away for more good prospects. He keeps the costs down while still having a good team.

  9. They are building for the future.

Beane is one of the best in the business - trust him.
