Am I the only person who has not only never read these books, but never even heard of them? Now, bearing in mind that I'd rather read a book such as The Life of Pi than the Harry Potter extravaganzas, do I want to read them?

  1. I'm a big fan of harry potter, and I've read twilight. It's all romance. I didn't even finish it coz it's not really my type of book. but you could give it a try, everybody is different..most say that it's awesome.

  2. Only you can decide if you truly WANT to read them.  I, myself, have never read the Harry Potter books, don't plan to, either.  So, I don't know how the Twilight Saga compares.  However, I can tell you this, all you "oh, they are for teenage girls" naysayers, I am 28, my bestest gal pals are in their early and late 30's (one is an English teacher) and we can not get enough of the Twilight Saga!  Forget about what people say about it being a vampire romance.... this is nothing like anything you've ever read before.  Incredibly creative and very original!  None of that sleeping in coffins, scared by crosses, killed by wooden stakes nonsense of old.  Plus, there are other legendary creatures at play in the saga.  ANYTHING that anybody says about the tale, though, can do no justice to it, and the only way anyone can truly understand what all the hoopla is about is to simply READ IT! ;)

  3. The twilight books are pretty good. They are by Stephanie Myers. The second book is the best. The third is good too. The first and the last aren't as good of quality. They are sold at walmart and barnes and noble always pushes them! They are aimed more towards a teenage audience but as a 25 year old they kept my attention. But if you like a vampire romance...these are great! Very cute!

  4. Yeah, you're probably the last person to have heard of them.

But don't let that get you down--they're truly awful (and I say this as someone who occasionally loves reading irredeemable trash for fun). They make Harry Potter look like Shakespeare.

If someone tells you they are the best books they have ever read, you can safely assume that person hasn't read very many books. If someone tells you that you absolutely *must* read them, you can safely disregard their advice (and any future book recommendations they may have).

The characters are flat, the writing is terrible, the books drag on and on for want of a stern editorial hand, and the central "romance" is a creepy, codependent mutual obsession. The reason they are so popular is because the heroine, Bella, is so insipid and lacking in personality that the average reader can easily put herself in Bella's shoes. It's easy to project oneself onto a heroine who has no outstanding personality traits (besides whininess and a martyr complex).

They've been all the rage, but like every other poorly-written, schlocky blockbuster they'll be forgotten in due time. Unless you enjoy reading books just to mock them, or are a m*******t, or genuinely like trash fiction, you won't be missing out on anything if you decide to read something else.

  7. i only heard of it today lol it kinda sounds like vampire chronicles meets home and away.

i think it may ruin the allure of vampires altogether.

I liked the harry potters. i'm not going to bother reading the twilight book as apparently there is a movie coming out in december.

  8. I also am not aware about the Twilight series, but I just loved (ga-ga about them though i'm 25) Harry Potter so I guess I should read them too, thanks Coley for asking the question and thanks everybody else for answering it, can I read them online at those websites?

  9. i think you should read them at first i didnt want to read them because everyone would come up to me and be like OMG YOU SHOULD READ TWILIGHT ITS SSSOOOO GOOD IM LIKE IN LOVE WITH EDWARD

so it kind of annoyed me but i gave it a chance and now im hooked lol but i suggest reading it before seeing the movie(if you were even planning too)

p.s.you should at least give them a chance

  10. I never read them either, but I keep hearing about them so I guess I'll probably give them a try one of these days. If you didn't like Harry Potter, I don't think you'll like them. I think it's like a Vampire and human love/hate type sort of story.

  11. I'd say your definitely in the minority when it comes to not hearing about the books :P And, based on what you said, you probably don't want to read them... It's about a vampire romance and it's aimed at teen girls.

  12. yes twilight series is awesome!!
