Ok so my husband has ADD and went off of his adderall about a month ago. The doctor told him his body would probably start detoxing, or cleaning out. Well immediately after he went off of them he got sick as we expected. But now its a month later, and we've both noticed that his skin has started to badly break out all over and has become red, like its irritated or something. Is his body still cleaning out? Is there anything we can do to reduce the redness or breakouts? Any help, thanks!

  1. try those aveeno oatmeal baths. they dont mix in or confuse any type of medication. its like a powder you pour into a bathtub. it works really effectively to reduce any type of topical skin issues.

    hope your husband recovers.

  2. He needs a Balanced Diet and ALOT of water to help the Liver clear out the Amphetamines...yes he is still detoxing and will be for a while...

  3. an appointment with your doctor wouldn't be out of order. It would be wise to check with the doctor regarding these symptoms.

They could be something tied to withdrawal; however, I know of no skin conditions that are typical of Adderall withdrawal or detox.

It just may be a condition that was masked by the use of adderall and totally unrelated to the ADD. Now that the meds are flushing out of the system the skin condition has a chance to show you it is there.

plain old oatmeal in a tub will help with itchy skin. and will may also take away the redness. be sure to rinse off thoroughly but do not use soap as it can dry the skin.

good luck and hope he gets well soon.

  4. i know how your husband is feeling. i believe it is still cleaning out. try talking to the doctor, and if they dont do anything, then try a dermatologist.

  5. Your body takes 1-3 months (sometimes longer) to "clean out" or detox from a prescription especially if you have been taking it for a long period of time.

If the rash just randomly happened it could be related to the detoxing but i'm guessing that your husband is stressed and the rash is itchy as well as irritating -- it's most likely hives then.

The best advice for hives (if it's that) is to have him take a baking soda & sea salt bath.  Also, an antihistamine will help the itching (if it's itchy).

It also could be a heat rash - I suggest the bath (noted above) to help with this.

    Either way, good luck!
