I have a landline, I have broadband, the broadband works all the time but the landline phone only works between 7-8 at night and 10-10.30 in the morning ( we bought new ones thinking it might be them) any ideas, we have tried all manner of configurations and when its off the phoneline is completely dead, this also includes first box into the house. has anybody had anything similar. ps the supplier engineer is coming out in 5 days time.

  1. Are you on an island or some remote location served by a radio system that has a "path" to your area only part of the time?  Do your neighbors have the same problem?  Do you know if there is the occasional time other than those you cite when the you do have service?

Even though you call it a "landline", I suspect that somewhere in the network you are served by a radio system where one or both of the antennas are not high enough to have direct line of sight 24 hours per day.  Are you out in the sticks and being served by a remote subscriber system?

Did someone lower an antenna for "aesthetics" and ruin the telephone service?

Maybe it is my inate suspicion as a radio engineer, but I think we need more info from you to solve this.

Good luck and 73 from the Fisherman

  2. If it is dead at the Demarc during those times then there isn't anything you can do about the trouble. It's a shame that it will take them 5 days to get to you. If they determine the trouble was something that was their responsibility make sure you ask for credit for the time your service was down.
