Question:

What is going to happen about my GCSE Spanish oral?

I was sick on the day. I had laryngitis, I could not speak at all! I went to the doctor before the oral and she wrote me a doctors note. When I actually did the oral I had to stop, I only got my role play and prestation done and I just had to stop...

My teahcers are going to sent the docotrs note off with the tape. Everyone kept telling me I'd be ok because they could send my mock oral off (I got a B in it). But here's the problem, the teahcer can't find it...so they can't send it off! Although they have the mark in the school records.

What will happen? Will they fail me? Would they just make me out of what I had done? I could bearly speak...I was so unclear when speaking, I'm sure they didn't even understand! I'm sooo worried...

I just want to get a B in my Spanish but I don't think it's possible anymore...

Please help!

  4. Well, your school can't use your mock result without the tape for verification. Either the exam board will evaluate your first mark (a bit harsh..) and you can take it on appeal after the final result. OR, they will weight your score according to your doctors note (but only about 5 marks maximum allowed), it IS possible that they will allow you to complete it again later in the term. Just sit tight, and if you aren't happy with your GCSE mark at the end of all this then your school can make an appeal.

  5. Technically your teacher should have done your oral again but giving you different questions to those that you had on the day when you could not speak, taped it, and sent it to the board, as one is entitled to conduct the exam over a period of a few days. I am surprised you were obliged to do your oral on that day and  that your oral was not postponed , or that you were not given a second chance later unless the oral took place on the last day stated as permissible by the board.

It has happened in the past that tape recorders did not work properly and some candidate's oral did not record on the tape correctly . In that situation the board checks the performance of several candidates and if those are marked accurately they award the candidate the mark estimated by the school before the examination.

Do not panic, the chances are that you will get your grade. They certainly will not fail you with a medical certificate.Your school should fight your patch now and ask for a resit of your oral to demonstrate what you can do. If you do not get the overall grade that you deserve they will have to appeal.
