What is going wrong with my computer?

I have a Windows Xp that hasnt been updated in a while. I tried downloading iTunes and it said that I need to update my pc. When I tried to update my pc from the microsoft website, an activeX control bar never even showed up like it did. I tried everything it said and didnt work. Help me please!!!!!!! Any suggestions??????

Get only the stuff from Itunes site, dont go anywhere else. Go again to Add remove programs, if you see Itunes uninstall this.

Restart computer and install once again your Itunes.
