Gold is a a chemical element. It is found in the ground in its natural state. It is quite soft or malleable and is usuall alloyed (mixed) with another harder metal to make it more hard wearing (say for jewellery or coins). It is a very usefull metal as it is extremely malleable, a good conductor orf electricity and not easily damaged by corrossion.
