One with those head-set things would be great.

I know how a search engine works.

  1. tour just mumble till you fall asleep, in Rome, it's easy to get a tour  guide book, take the subway or the bus or just walk. All you need is the guide book, good walking shoes, water bottle and try to spend more time there, pick the places you want to go and you will enjoy it more than just rush, rush, rush with the tour and a whole bunch of people! But be very careful of the pick-pockets!

  2. www.viator.com

Walking around Rome is wonderful too! The public transportation is cheap and easy to use.  Your hotel can also help you get to where you want to go.  Once you get to a location like the Colosseum often times tour guides are outside waiting for a group to gather. We did this at the Colosseum for around $12/person and got in ahead of the 2 hour line waiting outside.  It was cheaper then if we had booked a bus tour but still guided.  I noticed the Vatican had the same thing.

  3. Dude--don't go on a tour. I went on one last summer (2006), and I wish I had just gone alone. Yes, it was memorable, and yes, it was nice to have that ear piece when my friend and I got lost in St. Peter's Basilica, but still. I would have much preferred to just mingle among the Italians as if I belonged there, y'know? Especially since I knew more than a little bit of Italian.

I know CHA is a good company, but it's generally for student groups. That's the company we took on our Italian trip.
