What is good treatment of the horse legs swollen?

Hi I just got a new horse and they brought him home while I was at work and put him in the wrong paddock so one of the other horses kicked at him and he twisted his back leg and now it is swollen and he will not put weight on it my vet said to ice it and give him bute but he will not let me ice it or hose it so what else can I do to get the swelling out?
