  1. That is a very general question, but I believe it means someone that considers the environmental impact of their purchases. That could include:

    - Purchasing only organic food products

    - Purchasing products from sustainable resources. Such as bamboo instead of declining supplies of rare hardwoods or cotton instead of synthetic fabrics.

    - Shopping using renewable bags instead of disposable bags

    - Using transportation to the store that has less environmental impact

    - Considering the environmental impacts of the products that they buy. It might make sense to buy a cotton shirt instead of a polyester shirt from an environmental point of view, but also important is how far that shirt had to travel to get to you. If it was made in China what was the environmental cost of shipping that shirt around the world?

These are just a few of the factors that might describe a green consumer. I've also added a few links in the resources area to get you started.

  2. Most importantly, it is someone who consumes as little as possible. They recognize their responsibility to future generations in the decisions they make when they do need to consume.

They choose products that leave little impact on the earth and will eventually degrade and return to a natural state whenever possible.  They avoid products made up of man-made substances that either don't degrade or degrade into harmful chemicals, poisoning our water, air, and soil.  They use natural cleaning products, things like vinegar, baking soda, lemon.  Dangerous chemical products such as insecticide don't have a place in their homes.

They try not to eat foods that are grown far away in petrochemically treated and nutrionally depleted soils.  They choose organic, locally grown foods whenever possible.  They don't give into temptation to buy an imported fruit just because it tastes good and isn't available locally.  They don't give into the temptation to buy processed foods because they are convenient.

They take pleasure in the simple things, and don't need the media and technology to entertain them.

They choose clothing and household items made of natually grown and renewable resources.  They buy things that are durable and built to last.

They take care of their health so they can reduce their need to consume dangerous earth-harming technologies and substances used to diagnose and treat disease.

They are always willing to learn and teach others how to live greener.
