  1. globalwarming!

  2. Without the Greenhouse Effect we would have a temperature around -40. The greenhouse gases trap some heat close to the earth so that we can live on earth.

Water vapor is our most significant greenhouse gas, and accounts for most of its total effect.

But we have several other significant greenhouse gases, Carbon dioxide and methane being significant parts of the effect.

Greenhouse gasses add up together so that if we have more of any one of the Greenhouse gasses, we retain more heat, and warm up  over time.

The greenhouse effect is driven by the quality of greenhouse gases to reflect long wave light back toward the earth, and to allow most incoming light to pass in to us.

Long wave light is light that has been absorbed on earth and re-emitted. In absence of greenhouse gasses it would just go off into space.

  3. A Greenhouse Gas (GHG) is defined as any gas that absorbs infrared radiation in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases include, but are not limited to, water vapor, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), ozone (O3 ), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6).

Without a natural greenhouse effect, the temperature of the Earth would be about zero degrees F (-18°C) instead of its present 57°F (14°C). This means that the concern is not with the fact that we have a greenhouse effect, but whether human activities have enhanced the greenhouse effect by the emission of greenhouse gases through fossil fuel combustion and deforestation.

Frequency and intensity of extreme events could increase.  The sea level is projected to rise. The general unpredictability of precipitation will impact the food supply.
