I'm wanting to make a Cherry Limade, but almost every recepie calls for "grenadine" but I don't consume alcohol. Is there anything that is close to this "grenadine" that I can substitute that will taste pretty good too? Thanks! =)

  1. Grenadine (also spelled grenadin) is a sweet syrup. It's used to make non-alcoholic drinks like a Shirley Temple (mixed with a lemon-lime drink like Sprite, 7-Up or Sierra Mist) and in alcoholic cocktails like a Tequila Sunrise. Grenadine itself is not alcoholic, and a lot of the stuff doesn't include fruit juice anymore.

  2. Grenadine is a mixer and can be purchased at any grocery store.  It contains on alcohol, so DRINK UP!

  3. It is a Non-alcoholic Cherry-flavored syrup.

Go buy some at the grocery store and make your Cherry Limeade.

  4. It's non-alcoholic with a mild, sweet taste. It adds a pretty color to most drinks when you pour in just a little bit and let it sink to the bottom, that's why it is usually used a garnish. But I've never seen a recipe call for as much of it as yours does so I don't know how that's going to work out for you.

  5. grenadine is non alcoholic cherry juice and is used to color and sweeten drinks.....  it USED TO be made from pomegranate, but is now made from cherries.......

you can use the juice from the marchino cherries, basically the same thing, only thinner.....

  6. No...there is no alcohol in grenadine.  It's just a flavoring/coloring agent.

  7. Grenadine is traditionally a red syrup. It is used as an ingredient in cocktails, both for its flavor and to give a pink tinge to mixed drinks.

  8. Grenadine comes in alcoholic and nonalcoholic varieties. It is a pomegranate syrup that you can purchase at walmart (or anywhere). I actually read online that you can make it with 1 part pomegranate juice and 2 parts sugar... You have to boil it and stuff, but yeah...

  9. Grenadine is a red syrup (hence non-alcoholic) made originally from pomegranates, however it has come to mean any red fruit syrup (made from strawberries, raspberries etc). It's typically used to sweeten cocktails and add a some intense colour.

  10. Grenadine is a syrup flavored with pomegranates.  You can easily make your own non-alcoholic grenadine syrup at home with this recipe.

    Prep Time: 10 minutes

    Cook Time: 20 minutes

    2-1/4 pounds pomegranates

    1 pint water

    Sugar, see instructions

    Red food coloring, optional

Separate the pomegranate seeds from the membranes and skin. In a heavy saucepan, cover pomegranate seeds with 1 pint of water and simmer, stirring until juice sacs release their juice, about 5 minutes. Pour through a cheesecloth-layered sieve into a bowl, pressing the juice from the seeds. Discard seeds.

Measure the strained pomegranate juice and add an equal amount of sugar. Pour into saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool to room temperature. Add food coloring, if using. Pour into a decorative stoppered bottle.

Use grenadine syrup in children's drinks like Shirley Temple or Roy Rogers, in alcoholic cocktails, desserts, marinades, and other general recipes.

  11. it's a non-alcoholic french syrup made from pomegranates

  12. Grenadine is a sweet, red syrup made from the juice of pomegranates. There's no alcohol in it unless someone actually adds it. It's the red stuff used to make a non-alcoholic drink called a Shirley Temple.
