I have been a licensed ham radio operator since 1964.

My favorite mode of communications was always CW (Morse Code).

I don't currently have any ham radio equipment (I now live in an apt), so experimenting with VoIp is now my hobby.

Ham radio is a very diverse hobby, all centered around

    Communications.

Communications can be simple morse code using hand made transmitters and receivers with wire antennas to microwave space communications. Most ham communications is voice mode and is either FM on V/UHF or SSB on HF.

Most hams are also civic volunteers, providing time, effort, and expertise to various agencies such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, you county or state Emergency Managment Agency, or a national church group such as the Southern Baptists Food Canteen.

All hams are licensed by the FCC (or a telecommunications licensing agency in other countries), and is governed by the International Telecommunications Union.

In the USA, testing is provided by volunteers, and the license is issued by the FCC.
