I am heading to Montreal this week and am wondering what is there happening with regards to arts and culture.

It has been a decade since my last visit and would like some recommendations on must see, eat or visit locations.

Thanks!

  1. Just for laughs fest!

  2. If you have an interest in fashion then I would definitely check out the Yves Saint Laurent exhibition at Montreals fine arts museum (Metro Place Des Arts). Place des Arts alone is a work of art.

There are always cultural/artsy things going on somewhere along Mont Royal street (A lot of random shops).

The 'Old Port' is also a must see if you've never been. Its beautiful and there are many great restaurants (such as Jardin Nelson on Jacques Cartier street...that street is where everything happens in the Old Port, there is always a musician, painters, mimes, comedian for free entertainment.

Also, my favorite scenic location is hands down Parc Jean Drapeau...there are many monuments and the greatest skyline view of Montreal. That is also where Montreals amusement parc La Ronde is located.

Anyways if you'd like to know anything else about places in Montreal feel free to e-mail me! HaeNyong@yahoo.com

Oh yeah and here are the festivals that havent ended or begun yet

    Les FrancoFolies July 23-August 3, 2008

Dragon Boat Race Festival July 26 and 27, 2008

Otakuthon anime festival, July 26 and 27, 2008

    Divers/Cité g*y and L*****n Pride days, July 27-August 3, 2008

  3. The weather is expected to be lousy all week (40% chance of showers or more), but at least the Just For Laughs festival is in full swing, and if you are interested in French culture or music, there is also the FrancoFolies.

The old port and downtown will be pretty much like you remember it, with a few new buildings and the stores changed.

Food is still excellent here, with lots of choices from sushi, Chinese, Italian pasta or pizza, Greek, and Lebanese. And of course you can still get a great steak or surf&turf in the area.

Here are a few restaurants in various price ranges:

    - Kaizan (Sushi)

    - The Keg (Steak/Seafood)

    - Vargas (Steak/Seafood)

    - Guido & Angelina's (Pasta/Pizza)

    - Schwartz's (Smoked Meat)

    - Hot & Spicy (Chinese - szechuan)

    - Chez Hwang (Korean)

    - Marathon (Greek)

    - Chalet BBQ (rotisserie chicken)
