  1. you have to buy another betta and put it in the same tank, bettas love company...especially other bettas, it gets real lonely when its by itself and gets depressed and eventually dies

  2. Bettas are slow moving fish and often just sit in one place for long periods of time.  Bettas have gills plus a labyrinth organ that acts like a lung so they can go up to get a bubble of air instead of swimming to force oxygenated water through their gills.  Your betta's behavior is normal and as long as he is feeding you should not worry.  The best way to exercise your betta is to place a mirror on the side of his tank or bowl.  This is a perfectly safe way to increase his metabolism and blood circulation which will result in better appetite and a happier, healthier fish.

  3. Probably nothing is wrong; they normally aren’t terribly active unless they are upset by the presence of another male.  Please don’t listen to the idiot above who suggested putting another Betta in with him; they will fight.

The mirror suggestion is not a bad one but don’t do it for long periods of time as it will stress him out.
