Question:

What is happening to my Plasma Ball/Globe?

I've had the Plasma ball for about a year and a half now

And when I got it, you could see the electricity and all

Now all you see is the center (glowing) some odd green gas

that wasn't there before and the pink dots on the glass

Is it supposed to do this over time?

  1. It sounds like the globe spung a leak and the gasses inside that glow with the passing of electrons are gone, replaced by ordinary air.

From reading about them on Wikipedia, it turns out that gasses like neon and krypton are usually in the globe. I never read about them before, but it turns out that Nikkola Tesla is ultimately the one behind them. It figures - should have recognized that on my own. :)

Google around, there are people who make them on their own - they share info on how they do it.

  2. Are you talking about a plasma lamp?

My advice to you is: Get a new one!

  3. Supposed to? No, I don't think so. There may be a leak in it which has allowed too much outside air in and caused it to go this way. It may be a fire hazard, so you might want to keep it turned off, especially when you aren't around to keep an eye on it. You can also get a new one, or take this one back to the place you got it and ask what to do about it.

  4. yeah, it sounds like there is a leak and the gas escaped. However, it is now quite dangerous, I would suggest throwing it away the same way you do with batteries.
