I have shasta daisies in my front garden, they've done well for two years now. Just in the past week, as they started to die back for the summer, one bunch started turning black from the ground up and just look diseased.

anyone have any ideas? The other bunches look fine, just the usual dried up assortment. Nothing has changed as far as lighting, water, soil balance.

  1. Call Lowes, ask for outside lawn and garden. Ask to speak to the plant specialist and he should be able to tell you what you want to  know.

  2. If it was from the top down I would say frost, but from the ground up a mold or rust.

If it is a mold you will see black tiny dots that grow together as it moves up the plant.  If they have already set seed and dying back the plant's defense system is dying also so the mold is able to spread easily.

Just one may be becasue it is wetter and possibly protected by other plants so it can not dry fast enough to fight off the mold.

Cut the plant back and get rid of it.  If you compost, and the compost is used on the others don't put the plant in the compost it may spread to other plants when you spread the compost.

If it shows on other plants or next year, you can look into getting a disease treatment for them.

  3. crown is getting crowded and you are seeing some crown rot,

remove dieased area and reduce the amount of water  you are applying into the middle
