little while ago my male rabbit got in to my female rabbits run but i am not to sure of when it was as i can't remember. i couldn't be bothered to take any notice of it as one of the rabbits is a large breed and one in a smaller breed so me and my mum took no notice of it as we thought it wouldn't work, but now we are not so sure now as she has made a large nest in her hutch and this morning i let her out only to find that she had quite a bit of blood in her hutch. i have also noticed a little lump just under neath her chin please help i am staring to get worried because of the sizes of rabbits that got mated.

by the way if it helps

the female is a argent champagne rabbit

and

the male is a mini lop

does anyone think she might be pregnant???

omg ur all going to get annoyed with how much u have to read but i have just been back down to check her and she is back in the hutch(which is very unlike her as she is normally out all day no matter what). but one of the ducks were in the place the nest is so i chucked it off and the rabbit(rose) hop straight back into the the nest. i went to change her water and when i came back down from the house she was off the nest.... i have locked her in the hutch so the duck can't get back in is this ok or do i have to let her back out ??? help i am v confused????

  1. How long ago was it that the two rabbits were together? (Gestation period for rabbits is approx. 28-31 days.) Has she pulled out fur to build a nest? Does she have an area for a nest (i.e., nest box)? If you are seeing blood, it sounds like she has given birth. You will need to ensure that nothing can get in to disturb her during this time, and if at all possible, remove her from the hutch for a few moments to check the nest for babies...removing any dead ones if there are any. Keep an eye on her, make sure she has plenty to eat/drink, unlimited hay. Check her every day to make sure things are going well. Watch your bunny for the next while to make sure she's eating, defecating, and isn't lethargic (in other words, watch for signs that she might still have a baby (kit) in her).

If she is a champagne d'argent and the father is a mini-lop, the size difference shouldn't matter. I'd be much more concerned if there was a huge size difference, esp. if the mother was small...as it could result in stuck kits. And yes, esp make sure the duck (or any other creature) cannot access her hutch, as any foreign 'visitor' could trigger her to kill her young.

P.S. If the duck can access the hutch, then chances are other animals (predators) can as well. Please ensure that the bunny's hutch is predator-proof against foxes, skunks, squirrels, snakes, etc.

  2. Your post was rather hard to follow - particularly the second part but yes, it's possible she is pregnant.  However, the size difference between the two rabbits is not an issue... the babies would be fine.

The lump under her neck is her dewlap - it is completely normal for mature females to have them.  They are basically just a little bit of stored fat.

Rabbits do not stay on their nests 24/7 but rather nurse their babies a few times a day and the rest of the time they leave the nest undisturbed.

  3. i think she is pregnant
