  1. Honey,

I would say a police officer. Police go through more thurough training, for a longer endurance than corrections.

also,  you have correction officer carrying arms, and some w/out(not security).

Correction officers usually work in a some what protected area, prisons, courtrooms, drive the prisoners around, juvenile detention centers etc., not to say they can not get harmed, but it does not compare to police.

Police, are trained to work in all sorts of areas, and different departments.

So, I mean c.o's should get much praise, but officers protect our communities 24/7...........or at least supposed to anyway.

    honeychild.

  2. The two professions has it's difficulties depending on the environment they are stationed to work in. Corrections can be difficult in certain prison likely for riots and Police can be as well in certain cities. Basically on the individual and of he has the heart to do it or not.

  3. Both have their own difficulties, but both deal with the unknown.  A correctional officer has to deal with concealed homemade weapons as well as other assaults.  While studying corrections in college I read several articles about CO's who were stabbed, spit on, pissed on, fecal mater thrown on them.  So they have their own unknowns as well just in a different sense than a Police Officer.

  4. they both have there dangers. It might take a lot more time for back up to arrive for a police officer in need. However for correctional officers, theres almost always someone there to back you up, but then again some inmates are doing 10, 20, 30 or more years so don't have much to lose, and a lot of prison guards get green lit a lot.

  5. It depends on how strong the law enforcement department of either police and/or corrections is.

A good police department or corrections division is run by administrators who 100% back up their officer's efforts--and take strong stands AGAINST "watchdog groups" that politically support social criminal elements or prison inmates.

The key in this complicated facet of law enforcement administration is to NEVER allow such "watchdog groups" to levy any degree of political control over that department's law enforcement efforts.  For the past 38 years, these liberal groups have enjoyed legal courtroom victories---and in turn, have ADDED dangers to the law enforcement and prison corrections professions.

But each passing day, brazen evidence is being shown that the "reforms" won by these liberal groups isn't working---and that law enforcement, both police AND corrections, must get tougher on the criminal elements before they over take society and prisons.

It's advised law enforcement administrators resonate these sentiments to elected officials---and call for repeals of the liberal "reform" laws overshadowing law enforcement efforts and hindering complete public safety.

Law enforcement efforts aimed at public safety oftentimes is NOT pretty to be witnessed by the public.  And public outcries against such efforts needs to be quieted---and the best way to do that is to allow law enforcement to do their jobs regardless of public resentments made--be they verbal or political.

  6. they both have their dangers....prisoners can be combative  but atleast you have help from other  correction officers, where as if you get in a situation as a police officer it might take longer to get a back up depending on the location of other officers

  7. My answer would be a police officer because of all the intense training they go through.  I believe they have to be mentally tough and in good shape.  Maybe your friend maybe talking about work wise because they have to take care of a lot of inmates.  And possibly standing for long periods of time and also trying to monitor all those inmates.

  8. dad and my uncles were all cops, I grew up around cops, I was offered a job in corrections and turned it down. I was working in prisons on telecom systems at the time.

I did not take the job because I would not want to be in a prison. While I would be able to leave when I wanted to, it was a royal pain in the butt to have to be buzzed thru every door, to be extremely careful not to let even a piece of plastic out of your sight. No thanks!

  9. I believe corrections officers see more violence without weapons than a cop ever sees though.

  10. both are easy......98 percent of them are lard a**ess.....

  11. My brother is a correctional officer and my uncles are cops. I think they're equally tough. Corrections officers are basically cops but they work in a prison.

Inmates can be very dangerous because of the homemade weapons they make. Plus, being a corrections officer takes a lot of self control. Also, inmates sometimes start full-on riots in the prison.

You should watch Lock Up on MSNBC to get an idea of what it's like.
