  1. HDTV is High Definition which means the picture quality is far superior to SD or Standard definition.  The resolution on an HDTV is a minimum or 720(p)  lines of resolution, Full HD is 1080(i) or the best 1080(p). A (p) stands ffor progressive scan an (i) interlaced scan. Progressive scan paints the TV picture from top to bottom in a continuous motion. Interlace paints the odd number lines then the even ones, Progressive scan delivers a smoother picture.

    Regular TV is 4809 (i) lines.

    It is roughly equivalent to your computer monitor set to 1280x1024 vs 640x480 resolution. You get a better picture at the higher resolution.
