  1. Heartburn or pyrosis is a painful or burning sensation in the esophagus, just below the breastbone usually associated with regurgitation of gastric acid. The pain often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw. Heartburn is also identified as one of the causes of chronic cough, and may even mimic asthma. Despite its name, heartburn actually has nothing to do with the heart. It is so called because of a burning sensation of the breastbone where the heart is located although some heart problems do have a similar sensation to heartburn. Compounding the confusion is the fact that hydrochloric acid from the stomach comes back up the esophagus because of a problem with the cardiac sphincter, a valve which misleadingly contains the word "cardiac", referring to the cardia as part of the stomach and not, as might be thought, to the heart.

  2. Heart burn is very closely related to acid reflex it happens when the acid in you stomach reacts to some foods giving you heart burn. It's not bad actualy its completly normal and you can prevent it by taking a tums there for nutralizing the acid with a base. Or you could stop eating foods that give you heartburn and cut of the problem at its source.

  4. What an early age to have heartburn. I had mine when I was in my mid-20s due to stress and terrible eating habits. I went on a diet limiting myself to certain foods and it created an imbalance in my system. Next thing I know I had stomach problems that later on became GERD or acid reflux combined with heartburn. It was so awful especially when I got pregnant, double the nausea, vomiting, and all. Certain types of food trigger it (fried, spicy, citrus, chocolates, caffeine, anything with white flour). To be more specific chinese food, fried chicken, all kinds of hamburger and pasta, french fries, pizza, orange juice, coffee, etc. It's everything. So I avoided these kinds of food and I was still very sick. My doctor prescribed pepcid (20mg) and prilosec (20mg). After awhile of taking it I was able to keep my food down (minimal vomiting) and had minimal heartburn. I take pepcid twice a day (morning and evening) and prilosec when I get a heartburn every now and then. The best thing I did for myself is to drink MILK again after so many years. Now I feel stronger and healthier again. Happier too =)
