  1. sand has a higher density than water.  Water has a density of 1g / cc and compacted sand has a density of 2.078g / cc.  So compacted dry sand weighs about twice as much as the same volume of water.  Hope this helps.

  2. Sand is. this is easy to prove. the sand is on the bototm of the ocean, and the water isnt. even though that has more to do with density, sand is still heavier.

  3. Sand.

    It sinks

    thereforeit is heavier

  4. Let's be scientific for a moment.  You can always find a volume of water that is heavier than a given volume of sand.  That is, a handful of sand weighs less than a lake full of water.

In terms of density (mass/volume) sand is denser than water.  Therefore, if you need a given mass of a substance (which has a weight in a gravitational field), you will need a smaller volume if you use the denser substance.
