  1. Depends upon the sort of riding that you do.  If you are into DH, then weight is not an issue and the frames tend to be a bit heavier.

For all mountain machines, 36 lb is not uncommon.  However, for most machines I would look to about 30 lb.

The same is true for most entry level hardtails for XC, about 30 lb.  If you are racing, then you want no more than 24lb, either hard tail or sus.

If you are relly considering racing, then aim for about 20 lb.

Note:  all of these are outside of your budget and for £250 you are going to suffer in either weight or quality.

    Luck

  2. Too heavy.. hmm... maybe like 60 pounds...

Don't worry too much about weight.  At least, those numbers are okay for the price range.  You would need to spend a lot of money to get a 11 or 10Kg bike.

If you want to lighten up your bike, search for objects that rotate, and the further from the center of rotation, the better.  Sooo, that means, tires might be the pareto rule on bike weight.  Lighter tires could be not that expensive, but they will make the most noticeable difference.  A lighter seatpost will probably not be noticed.

  3. You can adapt a bike to make it lighter but the parts are going to cost you.  Weight would only be a problem if you are riding up hill, it can be torture on a very heavy bike but 14 kg should be fine. Buy from a good local bike shop(not super store/Halfords etc) where you can get the support and advice you need.

    Have fun.

  5. No its not too heavy.

Unless your riding competitively the weight does not really matter

When riding on the flat your main resistance is air

If your going up steep hills the weight will make a difference but if you spend £1000 and get a 10kg bike you have saved 3-4Kg in weight. So just pedal more get fitter and loose that amount yourself in body weight.
