  1. There's a story about a man named Hobson who owned a stable and to rent a horse you had to take the one closest to the door--that was "Hobson's choice".

Well, maybe.  In the context we're familiar with, it's Henry Ford saying of his early model cars:   "They can have any color they want, as long as it's BLACK !"

  2. its when spome one gives you a choice, but kind of force you into picking one of your 'choices'

ie. 'give me money or die' or

leave or hold your breath for 9 hours, ect.

    its a choice that isn't a choice!

  3. A choice that is no choice.

a mild example: do you prefer rap or emo?

(Well what if you don't prefer either?)

Would you rather be shot in the front or the back of the head.

It also applies to the damned if you do/damned if you don't situations. The war in Iraq presents up with such a choice. Stay and we see extreme violence and bloodshed, leave and we see, um, the same thing. Usually these situations arise when things are not carefully planned.

As stated above: your money or your life... although actually there is some difference between these two choices.
