um everyone has their different definitions of hooking up

for me at 14 hooking up was making out with tongue/ fondling b*****s over shirt/under shirt

well... depends what 14 year old your talking about xD theres a lot of 14 year olds that do have s*x Dx but it could be anything it just depends how... loose they are

I know this will probably be booed real badly by the younger generation, but ultimately, it is very real. things like "hooking up" and early sexual activity leads to a number of problems. those that do, I feel dont learn what they offer, and what they need from another in a relationship,  and dont learn the base of a strong relationship, because it just got formed on s*x. It sounds like I am preaching here so I will offer this, I will never forget when I was in my early 20's, I had a girlfriend that told me she was ashamed of herself because in her teens she fooled around with alot of boys, and now she couldnt change what others thought of her, and also what she thought of herself over the memory in her own mind, it really bothered her. if she could have she would go back and change what she did, but things like that cant be changed or taken back,so if it helps out even one young person, girl or boy, I can take the ridiculing I am almost sure to get here.

Depends on the kid.

The more kiddish ones (read: the ones who haven't gone beyond kissing - or if they have, it was over their clothes) will probably use "hooking up" to mean making out. Usually hooking up implies that there isn't a relationship, but I've read magazines that say stuff about "hooking up with your boyfriend" so I guess not everyone assumes that connotation.

The more advanced ones (say, still virgins but have gotten to third base) probably mean just that; third base. Again, I would assume "hooking up" implies it didn't mean anything, but that's me.

The average 14-year-old hasn't quite gotten to s*x, but even if they had, s*x is generally still fairly big. Even if you like slutting around, most of the people I know who did that were fine with third base but wouldn't sleep with someone til at least the second hook up, if at all. So I wouldn't assume "hooking up" to include s*x if I was taking to an average early- to mid-teen, but I would realize that there is the possibility.
