  1. The humanities are academic disciplines which study the human condition, using methods that are largely analytic, critical, or speculative, as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of the natural and social sciences.

Examples of the disciplines related to humanities are ancient and modern languages, literature, history, philosophy, religion, visual and performing arts (including music). Additional subjects sometimes included in the humanities are anthropology, area studies, communications and cultural studies, although these are often regarded as social sciences. Scholars working in the humanities are sometimes described as "humanists". However, that term also describes the philosophical position of humanism, which some "antihumanist" scholars in the humanities reject.

  2. The way we did it at school was in years 7,8 and 9 in Humanities we were taught a mixture of Geography, RE (although its RS now) and History. At GCSE level it all changes, we did topics like:

    Environmental Issues

    Prejudice and Persecution

    Conflict and Cooperation

The coursework wasn't too bad, you chose you're own question and then researched and answered it. It has to be something along the lines of moral issues.

Mine was "Should the Internet be censored?", which focused quite a bit on freedom of speech/expression.

  3. geography, re, and history. things to do with humans.
