  1. Identical twins (triplets, quads, etc) occur when a sigle fertilized egg divides into multiple embryos.  Barring any mutations, their DNA is identical.

btw...Mary-Kate and Ashley are fraternal twins

  2. A fertilized egg that splits - 1 egg, 1 sperm.

  3. It's a woman's "egg" that gets divided and the babies look equal, like Mary-kate and Ashley; but sometimes it's two eggs and two babies born, so they don't look equal. Sometimes not even alike, or they could be male or female, but they are called twins anyway.

  4. After you-know-what, there is a 1/3 chance of conseption.  Conseption happens when a sperm fertalizes an egg.  After conception, the pregnancy begins.  Once the egg is fertalized, a baby starts to develop inside the egg.  The developing baby can split once inside the egg.  When it splits, you will have identical twins.  When it splits multiple times, you will have triplets, quadruplets, and so on.  So basically, there are 2 babies inside 1 egg.  When there are two fertilized eggs in one pregnancy, you will get fraternal twins, which, unlike identical twins, don't usually look alike.  Also, with identical twins, they are both the same gender, but with fraternal twins, you can have 1 boy and 1 girl.

  5. identical twins, occur when a single egg is fertilized to form one zygote (monozygotic) which then divides into two separate embryos
