  1. What Duh said is correct.

  2. All stations try to maintain an "image" for marketing purposes through their "brand" (how they position the stations to the general public). Descriptive words like "Soft," "Smooth," Edge," "Soulja," are familiar to all.  When radio production is involved, imaging is the stuff behind the curtain. It's the voice that says real deep, "Q-102, Rocks for You." Or its a commercial, but for the station's Rodeo Promotion instead of the local Ford dealer. It is the audio voice, attitude, sound and message of the station.

    -a guy named duh

  3. Alot of times they are called "liners", "IDs" or "promos" and they are little 5 second - 60 second sound bits advertising the station, the thing between songs that says "98.7 the beaver, your classic rock station"  or the 30 second bit at the end of commercials that has some dialogue "hey bessy, what are you doin?  why john boy, im listenin to 98.7 the beaver! . . . "  Lame examples but you get the idea. . . .  Its all about setting an "image" or attracting a certain demographic.
