  1. LOL at the guy who said "faux".  Too bad I know what you're talking about.

    Pho meatballs can be made of different things (but one thing's for sure, each ball is pretty salty!).  You can have pho noodle soup with beef balls (beef meatballs, and that's the norm, actually), fish balls or pork balls.  I don't believe I've ever had pho with chicken balls, nor have I ever seen chicken balls at the market.  There's a lot of salt and sometimes fish sauce and soy or tofu in them.

    If you don't know what's in the pho balls at a particular restaurant, ask them.  They will tell you what kind of meat is in their meatballs.  Most of the restaurants in the Bay Area that serve pho will usually specify what's in them on the menu (the common term that my mother, who is from S/E Asia, uses is "beef ball soup").
