I thought it was how many goals you are on the ice for. you know +1 if your team scores, -1 if you give up a goal, but, according to Yahoo, ryan malone has 2 goals and 1 assist in the penguins game, yet his +/- is only +1?

Anyone clarify please?

  1. you are correct

are you sure yahoo isnt talking about his over all +/- in the playoffs?

also, you don't get a + or a - when the goal is a PP goal or when you get scored on during a penalty kill

  2. you do not get a + or a - if the goal is scored on the power play.

  3. You're correct; however, "+" and '-" only applies to when the team is at even strength.

  4. if a your team gets a goal for when you are on the ice you get a positive mark. and if your team gets a goal against while you are on the ice you get a negative

example: If the score of a game is 4-3 for Team A, and Player A for Team A was on the ice for 2 goals for, and 1 against. his +/- would be +1

  5. + is anytime you are on the ice and a goal is scored on your team

    - is any time you are on the ice and a goal is scored against you

what yahoo is saying makes no sense

  6. You don't get a + or a - if the goal is scored on the powerplay, it only counts for even strength.
