  1. small towns... ice, snow, wilderness, oil rigs, small islands ect...

  2. Most of Norway is at least partly populated, so there are plenty of small towns even in the far north.  The fishing industry is quite big in the north, so there are many small fishing towns along the coast.

Tromsø is the biggest city in the far north and it actually has a population of around 65,000.  Their university is one of the major centers for Northern Lights and other arctic research.

The landscape includes some towering mountains, and in the Lofoten Islands, the mountains stretch right down to the sea coast creating some very dramatic scenery.

And in the very far north, on the islands of Svalbard and Bjørnøya, it really is just wilderness.  Svalbard, while semi-independent, is administered by Norway, and there only a few small towns.  The rest of the islands are completely unpopulated except for the polar bears (which have a larger population than the humans).
