In simple language, please. I already read hindu weddings on wikipedia and seemed really complicated. So can someone give it to me in layman terms?

  1. There are several events involved in hindu weddings. I'm not sure of the order, but here are a few.

There's a saat phere, which is where the bride and groom go 7 times around the sacrificial fire. When they do this, thet are swearing to be with each other for 7 lives, in front of the fire god, and to supprt each other.

There's also the tying of the mangalsutra, where the male ties a sacred necklace to his wife's neck.

The grrom also has to put sindoor (which is red powder), on his bride's head, which shows that she is now married.

There are also several other ceremonial prayers that bride and grrom conduct together, which are usually very lengthy. The ceremonied differ a little depending on whether they are south indian or north indian.

My favorite veremony is where husband and wfe have to search for a ring in a pot, using only one hand. Whoever finds the ring first is considered to be more dominant than the other.
