What is the benefit to raising peacocks, aside from their being beautiful?

What do they sell for? What does a hatchling sell for? Are their eggs edible? Is their meat palatable?

What are their personalities like?

  1. No real benefit to them other than they pick out insects.

The eggs are edible and the meat is edible.

Their sale price varies according to where you are selling and the demand and if you have peacocks with any rare traits. Also depends if you are selling hatching eggs, newborn chicks, or a full adult male or a female. Some people sell them online but then you add the next hassle of shipping the things. If weather is too hot they won't ship them. If weather is too cold they won't ship them. If flights get cancelled you have to call around and track them down. All sorts of hidden complications with shipping animals of any sort.

Decorating stores sometimes pay for the collected tail feathers of the male peacocks and they are particularly popular in Louisiana where they use the feathers for Mardi Gras and use them for masks or

    costumes.

Peacocks I've witnessed had their own personalities for the most part. Some were handled from hatching and were about as tame as a chicken but usually somewhat smarter. Some were ferocious as a peacock can be and usually became dinner.

The male peacocks sort of "scream" at times and a lot of people consider them pests from the racket.

  2. The raising of these beautiful birds can be both a time consuming and worthy hobby. If you choose to raise peacocks and peahens, give them as much room as you possibly can. For centuries, the peacock’s feathers have been used to adorn clothing and people themselves. Even today, the image of the peacock is considered so striking, that is used to represent major companies.

As for selling Peacocks, the younger they are, the cheaper they are. The breed also plays a part, as well as how close they are to the breed standard.

Murray McMurray are selling 8 rare and unusual assorted peafowl chicks for just over $400, an assortment of 8 chicks of the more common breeds for $234.64. However, they are probably cheaper elsewhere - McMurray has a reputation for being priced a little over the odds, but with excellent customer service.

Peacock meat is edible. It is common to find such meat being eaten in China and other places.

Peacocks can be testy and not mix well with other birds. And their stress level is a key indicator of their attitude also. The more space they have, they better they are cared for, the happier they are.

    Hope this has helped!!!
