What is it about Castlevania that attracts people?

I know a lot of people really, really like the Castelvania franchise, but I can't really wrap my mind around it. Every time I play it, I find my self aimlessly wandering in the castle not knowing where to go. It's not like Metroid where they retardproofedly tell you which little mini map square is your destination. So what is it about Castlevania that attracts you?

it is a fun game, some people like certain games while others dont, it's all about the way of opinion.

probably has to do with the fact that its platformer where you have to actually think to play it,  much like metriod.  also the music is good,  even by real music standards (as opposed to video game music standards),  and the art direction is also very cool.  

and the whip doesnt hurt

It has a really cool setting and atmosphere, really good music and gameplay, it's not linear allowing a little bit of exploration, and it has hordes of fantastic end-of-stage bosses. Very much like an Action-RPG, with a lot of emphasis on the action part.

I actually think it's a fun game. It is confusing but it is just so cool. The music is awesome and the story of the game is also very cool.....Vampires***
