Many of the best knives are manufactured in Solingen. Why do they all come from there?

  1. really i would go for cutco knives, they are made out of the same material as henckels or wustof (high carbon stainless) but they have better handles out of thermo resin which is what they make bowling balls out of where as german knives use polypropolene or wood which is either unsanitary or not as strong. plus cutco has a better unique edge that stays sharper longer, a better comfortable handle, and they guarantee their products forever. they put zig zeigler through school and neil armstrong. they've been on the history and discovery channel for their quality. i'd check them out if i were you

  2. Think Germany have reputation for not only making quality items such as knives but also they make things that tend to last longer: look at their cars for instance. They also buy steal as scrap metal from UK and sell it back to us.  The best Knives that we have here in UK are made in Sheffield England; but they are not as good as those made in Germany.

  3. I tend to agree with steve j on this one. Other then the fact that they have been making knives for a couple - four centuries. They have it hands down in craftsmanship and to a science. It also has a lot to do with branding. Germany just got the jump on the advertising scene. It isn't a matter of the best knives are made in Solingen. Just the best known. If your a "Buy American" then look into LamsonSharp knifes. I own a few and use them everyday.

  4. It is simply craftsmanship. High quality carbon steel and attention to detail. The Japanese also make very high quality knives such as Global. As with anything you get what you pay for. You can buy lesser quality German knives as well. Heinkel knives makes several different levels of quality and if you don't know what you are doing you can get burned in one of those department store sales.

  5. They have great high carbon steel and take more pride in their work. Unlike union workers who show up for pay and want more to work. Unions had their place at one time, but now are abusing employers. No wonder the jobs are going overseas, and things cost so much.

    Thanks, I done.
