What is it about shows featuring white upper class/upper middle class teenagers so palatable?

I'd like to see more shows with some broke white people who deal with more than just petty relationship issues. Maybe a show about some white people living in the ghetto. Party of Five featured one f'd up struggling family, but was it the last of it's kind? Is television doomed to recycling programs like Dawson's Creek and 90210? What makes shows like One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl popular among teens when they don't even deal with anything original?

When I turn on the t.v., give me pretty people leading the good life.  Woohoo!

I think America is trying to instill in its youth..a taste of the Ameican dream...And how some people are LIVING it..and it is possible to be "rich and famous". So everyone will begin to imitate their favorite movie star...reality star....and act like that person..in hopes they could be just like that person.

I dont think its the real picture though...cause majority of Americans are average middle class. They need to show more shows of just regular people..not the ones who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth! :)

In America television is escapism, not art. No one wants reminders of how S****y their life is.
